Central Saint Martins MA

Just a little post to the world that I got onto the MA at Central Saint Martins and will be starting there in November this year.  Very excited.  Just hope I can survive, being a student in this day and age is not easy.  Everything is so expensive and I am even struggling to make ends meet with a job.  I am finding that I am selling so much stuff on Ebay to make a bit of extra cash... then again, while I am selling things I also seem to be buying things too........... shoes keep sneaking through the post...  argh!

Costumes for The Irrepressibles

Around a week ago I was in the city of Modena in Italy, dressing The Irrepressibles. I had been commissioned to make costumes for their debut of the AIR spectacle. Initially I had known about it for quite a few weeks, but work at the Mark Fast studio was really taking hold as we were getting closer to fashion week. So I hardly had any time on my hands to think about the costumes. Luckily during my time I came across a fantastic material that I knew would be perfect for the costumes... thin plastic sheeting you use for decorating... it hand knitted perfectly... plus I managed to whack out 9 garments in just one week... I was hand knitting like a maniac........

The overall finished effect I was hoping to achieve was a translucency and lightness so that the complex lighting on stage would filter through the costumes... plus the fluidity and drape of the plastic made it perfect when under stage fans... they float and expand in wonderful ways...

I styled the costumes with Faster by Mark Fast samples which I got from the studio... luckily we dont sell the white undyed samples so they are at our disposal... sometimes I like to use them for my own outfits... hehe... but they were perfect on the stage... they used UV so the white glowed so fantastically... plus I had strings of pearls in lycra tubes which were left overs from SS10, they looked insane under the UV!!!

As Iam

well.... Its an introductory blog, but I am realising that I need t get my thoughts out in the open. Im a traumatic knitwear designer... well I call myself knitwear, but well I like also aspects of the textiles craft not just making things that are wearable... regardless of whether I am currently studying in fashion knitwear design.

I am starting this blog because I feel if would be good to get my thoughts out in the open and maybe make some friends in the knitting world that I suppose can help me and I can help them. I know there are already alot of knitting blogs out there that are heavily subscribed well... I guess I'd like to be known within these circles... It would be nice... Knitting alone can sometimes be a bit insane and well Id like to share my thoughts, feeling, madness with these people. Im not good at keeping these online journal things but well lets say Iam going to be housebound in the next few months when I have to start knitting my final collection for May/June, indeed I am not looking forward to this one little bit and I am hoping I pull through It successfully...

I guess in the next few months Ill post some of my ideas up and my current knittings... maybe in the hope tht someone sees.... Im new to Blogger, although I did have an account quite a few years ago....... Anyway, heres to my blogging....
