Costumes for The Irrepressibles

Around a week ago I was in the city of Modena in Italy, dressing The Irrepressibles. I had been commissioned to make costumes for their debut of the AIR spectacle. Initially I had known about it for quite a few weeks, but work at the Mark Fast studio was really taking hold as we were getting closer to fashion week. So I hardly had any time on my hands to think about the costumes. Luckily during my time I came across a fantastic material that I knew would be perfect for the costumes... thin plastic sheeting you use for decorating... it hand knitted perfectly... plus I managed to whack out 9 garments in just one week... I was hand knitting like a maniac........

The overall finished effect I was hoping to achieve was a translucency and lightness so that the complex lighting on stage would filter through the costumes... plus the fluidity and drape of the plastic made it perfect when under stage fans... they float and expand in wonderful ways...

I styled the costumes with Faster by Mark Fast samples which I got from the studio... luckily we dont sell the white undyed samples so they are at our disposal... sometimes I like to use them for my own outfits... hehe... but they were perfect on the stage... they used UV so the white glowed so fantastically... plus I had strings of pearls in lycra tubes which were left overs from SS10, they looked insane under the UV!!!
